The Auction will take place at Toronto's Eagles' Club at 17 Elm Street, Downtown Toronto (Two blocks north of Dundas Street, West off Yonge Street) on Tuesday March 28, 2006, commencing at 11:30am. Viewing for this sale will start on Monday March 20 to Monday March 27 from 10.30 a.m. to 5 p.m. (Closed Sundays) at our office at 211 Yonge Street, suite 200. We will allow limited viewing on day of sale (Tuesday March 28) from 9.40 a.m. to 11.00 a.m. We are located just up the street from the Elgin Theatre and just around the corner from Massey Hall. We are across the street and just a bit south of the Eaton Centre Shuter Street Parking Entrance. Take the Albert Street/Massey Hall exit from the Queen Subway stop and you are outside our building. Please note that a 15% buyers commission will be added to the hammer prices of lots purchased, and applicable taxes will be added to the hammer price + commission.

The following lots are from a family correspondence of C.F. Papineau, nephew of Louis-Joseph Papineau. One of the leaders of the 1837 Lower Canada Rebellion. C.F. Papineau was married to Mary Louisa McDonald. Her brother Andrew Henry McDonald had travelled to Australia. Then had travelled to South America in the mid 19th century and many interesting covers are included. A.H.M. used aliases such as E. D. Loedel. Only one 1860 letter is included, the rest are retained by the descendants. The family have supplied some notes. Usages range from 1854 to 1881. Condition varies but many interesting markings.

CANADA
224 15 covers or cards - Children of Peace (a Quaker sect) which founded Town of Hope (later Sharon) in County of York. This is located in riding of William Lyon Mackenzie and marches under David Willson in 1830's inspired the intended march on Toronto. Two members of the Children of Peace were killed in the brief encounter and another member, Lount, was later hanged. Among these 15 covers or cards or portion thereof, most are related to Willson. 1888 to 1928 then 1973 usages inc. 1907 “St. David’s Temple, Sharon Newmarket, Ont” post card - structure still exists and card addressed to G.H. Willson. Very mixed condition. E $75+
